Mikuláš Dzurinda is Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic. He was born on 4 February 1955 at Spišský Štvrtok in the east of Slovakia. He graduated from the Žilina University of Transport and Telecommunications (the today’s Žilina University), from which he also obtained his scientific degree of the candidate of science in 1988. After having worked as economic analyst at the Transport Research Institute at Žilina (1979-1988), he became director for information technologies at the regional directorate of the Czechoslovak State Railways in Bratislava (1988-1990). In 2003, Mikuláš Dzurinda received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa (Dr.h.c.) from the hands of the Rector of Žilina University on the occasion of the University’s 50th anniversary.
